In high school, I decided to take AP Art History but my school did not offer it. I took an online course instead, and basically taught myself art history, going through a book that was almost my size. It was my favorite class, and I felt a deep satisfaction at the end. I remember taking the final exam, alone in dark a room, someone clicking through yellowed slides.
I love studying medieval History at Harvard because I get the same rush of excitement when learning about beautiful things constructed in the past - not only architectural sites, but every archaeological find from the time period. Fascinating because the craftsmanship is almost always impeccable. Intriguing because we know so little about the time, and nothing is ever certain. Satiating because you can construct your own fantastical images of ancient kings and peoples.

Throne of King Dagobert, King of the Franks in the seventh century. Kinda reminds me of the Starks. /geekery /hashtaggameofthronez
